| Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately at room temperature. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
| Reference Client: | If unable to deliver to lab immediately, store and transport at 2-8° C. Specimen must be received in lab within 24 hours. Cover bronchial brush with small amount of sterile saline if delay in transport exceeds 2 hours. | ||
| Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, improper/delay in transport, incorrect source. | ||
| Reference Range: | Bronchial brush: concentrations of > 106 CFU are considered significant. Bronchoalveolar lavage: concentrations of > 105 CFU are considered significant. | ||
| Additional Information: | Susceptibilities are performed only on significant isolates. | ||
